Musings on the Planned Parenthood shootings

By quinersdiner | December 1, 2015

Murder is evil.

Period.

The lone gunman who killed three people in a shooting spree in Colorado Springs over the weekend committed evil.

Each human life is precious. As a member of the pro life movement that opposes human abortion in the public square, I join my fellow pro lifers in condemning this sick act.

And sick it was. The alleged killer, Robert Dear, certainly doesn’t look like the picture of mental health in the mugshot released to the media…

That’ll scare ’em

Lord of All Hopefulness

By quinersdiner | November 26, 2015

I played this song at last night’s Thanksgiving Mass at my church. I love this old Irish tune and posted a beautiful instrumental version above performed by the O’Neill Brothers.

The lyrics by Jan Struthers are worth reading this Thanksgiving Day:

Common ground on the Syrian refugee situation

“The refugee dilemma.”

This is the headline I used in a post a few days ago along with this political cartoon.

It generated some pushback. Here’s one nuanced response:

In God we trust, in government we don’t

On the Republican side, Donald Trump is taking advantage of public distrust in government at the same time that he soils his own integrity.

Ask not what you can do for your country, demand that your country provide you with a free lunch

By quinersdiner | November 24, 2015

Most of all, President Obama rejects Kennedy’s philosophy of “ask not what your country can do for you …” Our current President even thinks government (taxpayers) should pay for your abortions. His brigade of “snowflakes” on college campuses scream for free college tuition, mandated wages, and guaranteed jobs, while simultaneously labeling any ‘hostile speech’ (ideas with which they disagree) as hate speech.

If John Kennedy were alive today, would he still be a Democrat?

Where were you when Kennedy was shot?

The kids gathered in the auditorium after lunch as usual. Frankly, I can’t remember why. And then the room was quickly hushed. We heard the principal, Mr. Pace, over the intercom. He said he had just heard news that President Kennedy had been shot, and that he would keep us posted.

The price of inhumanity

By quinersdiner | November 23, 2015

From 1980 to 1988, there were 1 million deaths due to the Iran/Iraq war.

From 1980 to 1988, there were 14 million deaths in the U.S. due to abortion.

Go figure this one: Trump’s numbers go up after Paris attack
