Scary, not nasty

By quinersdiner | August 10, 2013

“Dad, do you like horror movies?” This is the question my 29 year old daughter asked me yesterday. Karen and I are in Alaska visiting her and her husband. It was a rainy day, so we decided to go to a movie. I told her I used to love horror movies until they changed. I don’t know exactly when it happened, but horror movies went from being scary to being nasty …

You have two sources for the unvarnished truth: Quiner’s Diner and Jodi Miller, ace investigative reporter for NewsBusted.

Jodi breaks new stories this week:

The telemed abortion debate rages in Iowa

By quinersdiner | August 9, 2013

“Human life begins at conception, and the fact that different stages are given different names does not mean that some stages are not human …”

Seward’s folly

By quinersdiner | August 9, 2013

The year was 1867.

Russia’s biggest rival was England. Russia owned a huge chunk of land they called Russian America. It was land that would be difficult to defend in a war with England., whom they had already fought in the Crimean War. England had a base in British Columbia in close proximity to Russian America.

What should Russia do?

Shouldn’t we err on the side of life?

Dr. Ashman completely misses the point. The issue does not lie with the scientific understanding of human development. Pro-life physicians and pro-life bioethicists thoroughly understand such development, as does any well-informed person. It is the conclusions they reach that differ materially …

Doctor says Quiner is full of it

By quinersdiner | August 7, 2013

An Iowa City doctor responded forcefully to my essay which appeared in the Des Moines Register last Friday.

Here is Dr. Robert Ashman’s letter which appeared in the morning’s Des Moines Register …

What a heartless mob

By quinersdiner | August 6, 2013

Detractors to my recent essay in the Des Moines Register claim I “hate women” since I oppose webcam abortions:

“I’ve got to wonder at anyone who so hates females that he’d elevate the rights of a fetus over those of a woman.”

I oppose webcam abortions on the ground that they can hurt women, as it did to Holly Patterson, and kill her fetus, which compelling evidence reveals as being a human being. The “hate women” claim is nonsense, of course, and is trotted out by those who are unable to muster a more persuasive argument …

The poverty of the preborn

By quinersdiner | August 5, 2013

Joseph was conceived 40 days ago. His parents are worth one billion dollars. Nonetheless, he is poor.

A letter from Holly Patterson’s dad

By quinersdiner | August 4, 2013

I wrote a recent post titled “RU-486 is poison.” I made reference to a young woman, Holly Patterson, who died a decade ago as a result of taking the RU-486 human abortion pill. The piece appeared in the Des Moines Register on Friday. Her father responded:

Seward, Alaska

By quinersdiner | August 3, 2013

By Tom Quiner I won’t be posting a whole lot for a week. I’m sitting in Seward, Alaska, basking in the beauty of some of God’s greatest work. Alaska is beautiful! I trust the world can function without me for awhile.
