What is the truth?

By quinersdiner | April 23, 2012

Moral Relativists view truth as an oozing, fluid idea. What was true yesterday may not be true tomorrow. Feelings determine morality. Truth is an evolving entity, much like the Constitution of the United States in their eyes. The self-esteem movement is a reflection of the impact moral relativism has had on our culture. Moral absolutism produces guilt when we do something wrong. Guilt is bad. On the other hand, moral relativism allows us to rationalize away such unpleasantness, which makes us happy. Happiness is good. Therefore, feelings ultimately define morality for the Relativist. Self-esteem is the name of the game. For moral absolutists, it is just the opposite …

The persuasive history of early Christianity

By quinersdiner | April 22, 2012

A Quiner’s Diner reader, Larry, took issue with a previous post where I suggest that a person wouldn’t die for a lie. My point is that ten of the twelve disciples of Jesus were martyred for spreading Christianity. They wouldn’t have gone to their death for a lie, I suggest. Larry disagrees by questioning the veracity of the eye witness, Paul. Let’s look at his concerns …

The 20th century’s “John the Baptist” comes to Des Moines

By quinersdiner | April 22, 2012

James Engstrom was born dead. For 61 minutes, he had no pulse. Suddenly, his heart started. Why? Was it because of what his parents did that new life was breathed into James tiny heart? They pursued an intentional course of action that may have saved his life …

How Democrats defend bigotry

By quinersdiner | April 21, 2012

By Tom Quiner Dishonest Iowa Democrats smear a good woman. This was the Quiner’s Diner post on April 13th. The Des Moines Register picked it up and ran it without changing a word. The Dubuque Telegraph Herald ran with it. I was asked to be a guest on a Northern Iowa talk radio show to discuss the issue. Here’s the quick recap: 1. Governor Branstad appointed Dubuque resident, Colleen Pasnik,…

The selective application of human rights

By quinersdiner | April 20, 2012

By Tom Quiner I could be looking at my grandson right now. He’s been in the womb for more than eight months. Could someone please tell me why the person in the photo on the left is not entitled to human rights, but the one on right is? Thank God my first grandchild is being born into a loving home with a loving mother and father, two dogs, not to…

Libs angry at Wal-Mart for shutting down meth lab!

By quinersdiner | April 20, 2012

By Tom Quiner [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMRyckS1Eug&feature=youtu.be] Did you hear about the meth lab found in a Wal-Mart? NewsBusted’s Jodi Miller has the scoop. And her take on the story is vintage Jodi. My friends, praise the Lord, Friday is here! Time for 156 seconds of laughter in tribute to our liberal brothers and sisters. Quiner’s Diner pays homage to the, shall we say, “interesting” way in which liberals see the world by…

Attend the Pro-Life Book Sale

By quinersdiner | April 19, 2012

By Tom Quiner For Quiner’s Diner’s readers in the Central Iowa area, plan on attending the Iowa Right to Life Book Sale through Saturday. The Des Moines Register gave lavish photo coverage to the competing pro abortion Planned Parenthood book sale going on right now. A pro-life book sale doesn’t generate support from the mainstream media and very much relies on word-of-mouth advertising. Here are details from the Iowa Right…

God’s surprising gift

By quinersdiner | April 18, 2012

Something stood out more than the visiting Cardinal at last Sunday’s Mass. It was a young man in the first row. I watched him singing the opening hymn. He doesn’t sing like you and me. I’m not talking about his voice. I couldn’t even hear him over all the other voices. It was his demeanor, his expression, his joy. He sang as if there was but a single person in the entire Church: Jesus. This young man sang with an unrestrained jubilation for the gift of his life to the giver of that gift, God. His arms waved. His head bobbed. He poured all the love in his heart, which I suspect is a lot, toward heaven. He had to be in the first pew, because he needed quite a bit of space to move around. He just had that much love of life in him that a single pew would probably cramp his style! I couldn’t believe it. And then he turned. I could see the side of his face …

What does the president believe in?

By quinersdiner | April 18, 2012

The Buffett Rule will not make America sounder financially. The president’s own numbers acknowledge as much. In fact, it will most likely make America weaker. Rich folks who earn a substantial portion of their income from investments would be faced with a doubling of their effective tax rate from fifteen to thirty percent. The Buffett Rule could result in a fast and furious selling spree with devastating results on the stock market. The impact on middle class investors and folks living off of their pensions and IRAs could be devastating …
